Drinking green tea may reduce psychological stress.
Green tea has been shown to offer many health benefits from supporting weight loss and joint health to heart and cell health. A new study recently showed that drinking green tea may also help lower psychological stress.
Researchers investigated 2774 (6.6%) respondents who were classified as having psychological distress. There was an inverse association between green tea consumption and psychological distres. Although the relation was largely reduced when possible factors were adjusted for, a statistically significant inverse association remained. The odds ratio of developing psychological distress among respondents who consumed more than 5 cups of green tea per day was 0.80 compared with those who consumed less than 1 cup per day.
These relations persisted when respondents were stratified by social support subgroups or by activities in communities. Researchers concluded that green tea consumption helped lower psychological distress.
